The leaders in Alzheimer research gather here

The Alzheimer’s Association Research Roundtable is a consortium of Association staff and advisors along with scientists from the pharmaceutical, biotech, imaging and cognitive testing industries. The consortium also invites thought leaders and guest representatives from academic institutions and government regulatory agencies to appropriate meetings.

In the spring and fall each year, the Research Roundtable convenes two-day presentation meetings that cover a topic selected from a list proposed and voted on by the members. The topic list proposals and votes occur during a members-only business meeting that precedes the presentation meeting.

Once the topic is selected, members volunteer to act as co-chairs and assist Association science staff in inviting speakers for upcoming meetings. Speakers may come from industry, academia and other organizations both in the United States and around the world.

Tackling common barriers of Alzheimer research

Convened by the Alzheimer’s Association in 2003, the mission of the Research Roundtable is to facilitate the development and implementation of new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease by collectively addressing obstacles to research and development, clinical care and public health education.

The Research Roundtable also sponsors Alzheimer’s Association grants. The chosen project is named Research Roundtable Sponsored Grant and the Principal Investigator of the project is invited to give a progress report at a Roundtable meeting.

Thriving in a collegial atmosphere

This innovative forum provides members with the opportunity to network with one another in a collegial environment. During the business meeting and two day presentation meeting, there are ample times for interaction at breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

Subcommittees on such hot topics as MCI, biomarkers and clinical trial design may also hold monthly teleconferences to discuss the scientific agenda and invited speaker presentations.

Publications and outcomes

The Research Roundtable collects meeting proceedings which are summarized and published within nine months to disseminate the state-of-the-art information presented and discussed at the topic meetings. Past meetings covered topics on biomarkers, optimal trial design for disease modifying therapies and academic/ industry interface for drug discovery.
