Caring for Diverse Populations

Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders that cause dementia know no boundaries. Many individuals and families in ethnic and cultural minority groups in the United States encounter obstacles that limit information, care and health resources. Also, many medical and care services are not designed to meet needs in diverse communities.

The Diversity Resources were developed for people with dementia, family and friends, and health and social service professionals to meet the following goals:

  • provide resources to people of diverse backgrounds with culturally relevant educational materials

  • raise awareness of the health care challenges in a diverse society

  • offer tools for volunteers and professionals who are striving to meet those challenges

The diversity resource materials were reviewed and recommended by leaders in research and care in ethnic and cultural minority groups.
